Pop music on steroids is the best way to describe Johnathan Heath’s debut album. Relationships doesn’t follow the ‘classic pop’ method or rollout, instead it creates its own. Taking the listener on a journey through a teenage love story that went wrong in the infamous year 2020. Johnathan’s romance is brought in slowly with the raw, apologetic “The Life of a Relationship” and moves directly into the steamy-LoFi sex track “Strawberry Champagne.” We are then brought into the indecisive Trap filled “Anxiety” and carried then into the lusty R&B inspired “Summertime Love.” He isn’t entirely alone, however. Divine Castillo helps Johnathan out as a fellow crooner on the haunted revenge seeking “Ghost.” Moving further into the album is where the R&B vocally inspired tracks and the witty punchline bars.


While still staying true to himself and his artistry, he maintained to understand the assignment. Taking us through a challenging romantic experience while still keeping the subjects of the COVID-19 pandemic and self-love (two things that many struggled with during 2020). Relationships takes us on a journey of finding peace with the world and letting grudges and heartbreak go. You can hear the many influences Johnathan channeled throughout this body of work, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Drake, to name a few. But he doesn’t seem to impersonate them. Instead, he creates his own route and conquers his sound. At the time sixteen-year-old managed to write, produce, and arrange this entire work of art all within a year and direct music videos for the songs. There really isn’t anything he can’t do and this record proves that.
